    About SparkEFL

SparkEFL was built to bring transparency to the Texas deregulated electricity market — where advertised rates rarely match what you actually pay.

    Our Mission

Texas electricity plans are sold with eye-catching "average price per kWh" numbers calculated at exactly 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh. But most households don't use exactly those amounts. Fixed monthly fees, TDU delivery charges, and bill-credit cliffs mean your real cost per kWh can swing dramatically with your usage — a plan advertised at 10¢/kWh can easily cost you 14¢/kWh at your actual consumption. SparkEFL reads the official Electricity Facts Label (EFL) for any plan and calculates your true, itemized bill at the exact usage you enter, so you can compare plans honestly before signing a contract. Our mission is simple: turn a confusing, standardized disclosure document into a clear dollar amount that reflects what you'll actually owe.

    How the Calculator Works

Upload a PDF or image of an EFL and our parser extracts the energy rate, fixed monthly customer fee, TDU delivery charges, and any bill credits or usage discounts. Enter your monthly kWh usage (or pick a quick tier), and SparkEFL applies each component in the correct order — REP base charge, energy charge, TDU delivery, then credits — to produce an itemized bill breakdown and your effective price per kWh at that exact usage. Calculations exclude state and local sales taxes, which vary by location and are added by your provider.

When you enter one of the benchmark usages (500, 1,000, or 2,000 kWh), the calculator reconciles its computed total against the stated average price printed on the EFL, so the result matches what the provider advertises at those checkpoints. At any other usage, it builds the bill from the raw components — which is where the real surprises hide.

    Independent & Unbiased

SparkEFL is an independent resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or compensated by any retail electric provider, TDU, or comparison marketplace. We don't sell electricity, we don't earn commissions on sign-ups, and we don't rank or promote specific plans. The calculator applies the same standardized rules to every EFL you upload, so the numbers you see come straight from the provider's own disclosure document — not from marketing copy. Our only goal is to help you understand and compare Texas electricity plans on equal terms.

    Privacy & Data

SparkEFL runs entirely in your browser. Your EFL document is parsed on your device and never uploaded to any server — there is no backend and no database. We don't store your usage data, your documents, or your identity. The only third-party services on this site are advertising (Google AdSense) and standard web analytics, which operate under their own privacy policies. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

    A Commitment to Accuracy

Texas EFL formats vary widely from provider to provider, and parsing them automatically is an imperfect science. We continuously refine the parser to handle common layouts, tiered pricing, bill credits, usage discounts, and the four major TDU rate schedules (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, and TNMP). When a parsed value looks off, you can always verify it against the EFL's own stated averages at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh.

Calculations are estimates based on standardized EFL rules and exclude taxes. Your final billed amount may differ slightly due to taxes, fees, rounding, or plan-specific terms not captured in the document. Always confirm details with your provider before enrolling.

    Free to Use

SparkEFL is a free resource for Texas electricity customers. The site is supported by advertising, which allows us to keep the calculator and all of our energy guides available at no cost. If you have feedback, found a parsing error, or want to suggest a feature, we'd love to hear from you — visit our contact page.
